This hip outpost of the Ace Hotel in London is the brainchild of Universal Design Studio, who felt: "The ambition was to discover the authentic voice of both Shoreditch and the property, exploring the hotel’s potential to embed itself within the fabric of the neighbourhood and nurture the local culture."
The Ace aesthetic that has come to be known for its understatedly cool energy is present in everything from the design of its bedrooms to key vintage details like schoolhouse chairs, clipboards, stationery, bathrobes, turntables and bikes. The hotel pays homage to the equally trendy Shoreditch neighborhood in London by featuring the work of local builders, artists and makers in its design.
Why this space works: The Ace brand presence is strong here. As with all of its hotels, the Ace masterfully blends local culture with sporadic pops of color and fun details in arguably minimalist decor that work together to create a feeling all its own. Guests come to expect cool vibes created by the Heritage radios & Rega RP1 turntables in every room, curated toiletries, and utility-laden elements like a pocketed headboard and a variety of lighting options, which envelops their experience in the distinct world of Ace. The bedrooms at the Ace in particular are dark, cozy, and hip, with strong palettes of blacks, grays, and neutrals with light dashes of color in linens and accent chairs and tables--possibly drawing inspiration from the mood of the weather in London.
"Both exterior and interior design focus on traditional craftsmanship, embedding the space within the historic context and material heritage of Shoreditch," said Universal Design Studio director Jason Holley.
