This bright industrial loft is home to Lily Harris, her boyfriend Llew Mejia and their Cornish Rex cat, Maybe. Lily designs children’s clothing for Old Navy by day and moonlights to make sophisticated handmade-to-order womenswear through her private label, Lily Stan Studio. Llew is a textile designer and illustrator. Together, this creative duo collaborates in life, work and the pursuit of happiness in their live/work loft.
Why this space works: All-white walls and a contrasting black industrial staircase create a brightly lit, clean canvas for the pair's creative needs. The openness of the loft allows them to flow between projects, collaboration sessions and work/play.
They make the space work for the way they use it. Painting their table black took their creative process into consideration. "We built this table and painted it because we wanted something that we wouldn't mind getting dirty from Llew's painting," Lily explains. "We can always paint it with another black coat if need be!" Atop the table is a collection of beloved objects (mostly Llew's) and hanging on the wall above it are two pieces of artwork from their friend, Katie Stout.
Maker secret source shared: Lily uses a Juki Industrial sewing machine to bring her craft to life. "I got a really insane deal on a brand new machine when I lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota from a sewing parts supplier."
What's playing in this space? "I listen to everything from hip hop, to trap music, to weird synth noise music, to emotional girl music, to the oldies that I grew up listening to. I really love the smell in my apartment because my fiancé is always lighting palo santo or piñon." Check out this design maven's Spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/user/lilyhrrs.
